Here is the problem I have had, and it hasn't changed in 10 years - Time, there is not enough of it. I have spent thousands of dollars going to seminars, listening, coming out with great ideas on how to market my company and make more money. What an eye opener!! I've been working with you for less than two months and I've already learned more about effectively marketing my business than I have in my entire professional career.
I was at the end of my rope trying to accelerate the growth of my quality oriented carpet cleaning business. Today I had the great pleasure of meeting a gentleman named Steve in my front office of the company where I work. He introduced himself, and I was very happy to find out he is here to help all of us with communication skills and problems. I really did not believe him. My company is a construction/roofing business, and is run by brothers who are delightful, considerate, mannerly, but so busy, I find myself chasing them around the office. When they are in it.
I gave up recently on using the cell phones and two way pagers. They are great, but not giving me the answers I need while I am flowing through thousands of papers, and trying to fathom how to fit my customer service skills in to the day of only 8 hours, and 33 job sites. All of the jobs are in different phases, and if on the average, half are married, I need to talk to approximately 49 uniquely different people quite often.
I am still learning the department, it's procedures, and functions. I have recently branched from my trainer Ms. Khae, to Mr. Tom Yancey, as my help and direct boss. He is so busy that I started singing for him to come to my office as he walked by yesterday. Trying to tease him in to talking with me. He did so, but then had to go.
There are so many questions, and procedures to do, that take a priority, if we are to meet our goals every month. He has the knowledge, but not allot of time. He performs a job function as CEO, and often times, is on the job sites themselves.
I met Steve, and was frustrated, and do not want to fail, nor cost the company any costly mistakes, as I go through my job. Steve figured this out, helped me with a stand up role play. He listened to me, then gave me the proper words to say, with the way to say them, reflecting even a proper tone in my voice. This took all of 5 minutes. I was
impressed, then decided to go to Tom, and try it. My goal was to get at least 10 minutes each day with Tom.
It worked. I received 4 days of appointment time, and Tom was very pleasant about it. He explained his time limitations, and gave me the ten minutes I need each day to get things accomplished.
I want to learn, do a great job, and avoid the company possible costly mistakes. Thanks to Steve helping me, offering to give me more help in the future, I am going to succeed.
